A watershed is an area of land where the all of the water drains to a common waterway, such as a stream and includes all of the land and activities that affects the waterway. Watersheds can be small and localized, such as the area affecting a small tributary. As individual tributaries flow into larger streams and rivers, they become part of a larger watershed.

 

We all live in a watershed and our actions can affect not only the watershed in which we live, but those that are downstream.

 

The SCCD Watershed Program includes several activities, with the goal of improving the water resources for Sheridan County. The focus watersheds include the Tongue River, Goose Creek, and Prairie Dog Creek watersheds.
