Cold Hardiness: Excellent

Life Span: Long

Elevational Range: 6,000 to 9,000 feet

Soil Conditions: Does best on loamy soils that are deep, moist, and well drained

Wildlife Value: Seed eaten by song and ground birds, squirrels, chipmunks, deer and other mammals. Needles are eaten by grouse, beaver, elk, deer, and rabbits. 

Misc: Will naturally reforest droughty sites where precip averages 16 inches or more; can be a great tree for windbreaks and erosion control
